This non-fiction book was written over a two-year period from the interviews and recordings with Erma Eisler. Her childhood was amid the battles of Berlin and the area just south of Berlin. The family consisted of her father and mother, Arne and Freda, and her younger brother, Richard.
They were just an average family caught up in the Nazi rise to power and the maelstrom of the German collapse in the Second World War. Perhaps her family and many in the United States would have shared the same experiences had it not been for the fortune of time and place.
Berlin Girl eBook Ken Cashon
This is a significant book to me since I knew Judy and her family growing up. I didn't know much about her life before I met her and she didn't say a lot about her life before she moved from Germany to America. So, this book was a revelation to me - the details of her growing up in Germany leading up to and including the war period. And living in Berlin then was dangerous as it was the target of heavy Allied bombardment and occupation by the Russian army. Judy survived the war and went on to live a long and fulfilling life. Now I know the events and conditions that shaped her life and that made her a special lady. I'm grateful to her and to Ken Cashon for collaborating on this book, which gave me a more complete picture of her early life and insight into what made her a unique person in the culture of her adopted country. I only wish I had known more of her story during the days when our families were in frequent contact. Please rest in peace, Judy.Product details

Berlin Girl eBook Ken Cashon Reviews
Beautifully researched. Good overview of history with emphasis on a regular girl. If you're interested primarily in history, this book has an excellent overview and an in-depth presentation on Stalingrad. If you're interested primarily in the stories of ordinary people, this girl's story will touch you.
